I have no say in the matter, the government DOES have power and it is not contingent upon my acknowledgement or acceptance of it.

What exactly do you want? Anarchy? Because the only way to prevent political abuse is to deprive a government of its power ENTIRELY. If the government has even the slightest bit of power, they can and in some cases will abuse it.

Either you accept the good and bad the government brings to the table or you accept nothing but self-rule. The reality is that there is no in between. A non-absusive government doesn't exist. Comparing the US to the rest of the world however reveals a relative lack of corruption.

However, if you would like a lack of governmental power and control I suggest moving to Somalia. I hear it's great this time of year and you can call whoever you want all day free from spying, assuming you are in the three spots in the country that get cell reception.

This is a tremendous misconception.

Zero sum comments are lame. The opposite of a government stranglehold is not Somalia.

Government had more controls on it in the past. Over the past decade, citizens have given.. yes given.. the Gov't more control, by being afraid and electing people that passed laws to give them more control.

To say that there is nothing anyone can do, is a defeatist attitude and goes in line with your reasoning of let them do what they want, I'm not doing anything wrong. It's a herd mentality to think like that and it's what propagates abuses.

Suggesting a move to another country is grasping in an argument that is being lost. It'd be the equivalent if I had said, why don't you move to Russia, I hear they'll be happy to monitor your calls everyday and you won't have a thing to worry about, because you don't do anything wrong.
