Here's all you need to know:

If Alabama truly "runs" the conference, in the last 20 years: (1993-2012)

-The SEC has become the dominant conference in almost all of college athletics.

-Florida (3), Tennessee (1), LSU (2), Alabama (3), and Auburn (1) have all won Football National Championships

-Arkansas (1), Kentucky (2), and Florida (2) have all won Basketball National Championships

-LSU (5) and South Carolina (2) have won College World Series titles.

-2 CWS finals have been all-SEC

-The SEC has expanded to 14 teams from 10 and hasn't had a team leave since the 1960's

-They expanded their academic profile in 2012 with the addition of two AAU schools and the foundation of the SEC Research Consortium

-Soon to be a new conference network

Contrast that to Texas. In the last 20 years:

-Two major conferences ended (SWC, Big 8) as a result of their actions

-Five major rivalries (Oklahoma/Nebraska, Texas/Texas A&M, Kansas/Missouri, Nebraska/Colorado, West Virginia/Pittsburgh) were ended

-Five schools left for other conferences (Arkansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Texas A&M, Missouri)

-Three other schools were abandoned and left for dead (SMU, Houston, Rice) One was thrown a life-raft 19 years later (TCU)

-Only two teams remaining in their conference have a national championship in football (Oklahoma, Texas)

-Only one team remaining in their conference has a national championship in basketball (Kansas)

-Only one team remaining in their conference has a CWS title: Texas (2)

-The academic profile of their conference has decreased drastically

-Their network has for all intents and purposes marginalized every member of their conference.

Once again, there's a difference between the boosters doing the dirty work, and the school itself lying to the NCAA and covering it up.

It's like Nixon and Watergate, Clinton's impeachment and Obama/Benghazi... it's not necessarily the original crime, it's the cover-up and lies that gets you into trouble.

A&M flat-out lied to the NCAA. Repeatedly. So did SMU.

I have yet to see one instance of the NCAA saying that Texas was anything but cooperative in the investigations. Instead, it's whine whine whine.

Newsflash: You fricking lied to the NCAA several times. No remorse, no "we'll take our punishment," very few if any self-reported violations. Your "internal reports" whitewashed the whole matters.

You lied. Deal with it.

Yet another example, for the slow-witted:

quote:

Warren Gilbert Jr. told the Dallas Morning News that Coach R.C. Slocum, former vice president Robert Smith and others convinced him not to meet with investigators.

Now, I have a question for CGSC Lobotomy.

quote:

-Two major conferences ended (SWC, Big 8) as a result of their actions

Explain this one.

How did Texas kill the Southwest Conference? I'd like to hear your version of this, please.

Also, the Big 8 did not end, it expanded.

quote:

Three other schools were abandoned and left for dead (SMU, Houston, Rice) One was thrown a life-raft 19 years later (TCU)

Seriously? You aggies have been looking to jump to the SEC for 20 years, and reneged on your pledge to stay in the Big 12, leaving small schools like Baylor in limbo. You are no saint in this matter of leaving behind Texas schools.

Very well put CGSC.

So basically, not only does Bama historically have a more competitive football program (from a championship perspective), but they also are light years ahead of them in how to run a top quality conference.

I think Texas needs to start taking notes for Bama on how to run a championship caliber football program, and a top notch conference. Because they sure have crapped the bed in both areas throughout their history. With the resources they have, they should have a lot more hardware in their trophy case by now. And they have royally screwed up 2 conferences so far (although I don't know if they can be totally blamed for the SWC since that conference was like the wild west).

Texas really needs to come over and learn how to run this crap right IYAM.
