I think both UF & Bama would've gotten in the playoffs in 2008 & 2009, LSU & Bama in 2011, and Bama & UF last year. And I think that trend will continue going forward for the foreseeable future.
I am sure there will be times that could happen, but the polls may not be the sole deciding factor by the selection committee.

In 2008, while Bama had 2 losses, Florida, USC, Texas, and Boise St. had 1 loss, and Oklahoma and Penn St. also had 2 losses. Considering Florida beat Bama 31-20, I don't see Bama getting back into a playoff system.

In 2009 it might be a closer call, but again, by Florida losing to Bama by 19 points in the SEC C.G, I don't see Forida knocking out an undefeated Boise St. or Cincinnati team.

In these politically correct times with congressional hearings on why non-BCS teams are being treated unfairly, I think conference championship games are going to be looked at more and more as part of the playoff system; lose your conference championship game in regulation, and you are out--overtime losses for BCS teams is another thing.

Bama had 1 loss prior to the bowl, and that was the sec championship game
