As good of a team as 2011 LSU was, their offense wasn't anything to write home about. Their special team and defensive play was pretty much perfection incarnate though.

That's fair. The real difference between 2011 and the 2012 team is redzone and third and short efficiency. The 2011 team were elite at both of those categories. The 2012 team struggled mightily. LSU does not need more explosion to be better on offense. They need to score touchdowns this year where they got field goals, and they need to keep drives going by picking up those short yard situations. If they do that, everyone will think it is a fancy new scheme. It won't matter if they do the same types of things. It will look worlds different.

That, and Rueben Randle.

LSU had problems replacing him in 2012. Randle was the deep threat that made the defense pay for stacking the box. The 2011 offense was not spectacular, but they took advantage of 8 man fronts with single coverage on Randle.

We did not have a deep threat in 2012, and we were unable to take advantage of single coverage. Still pretty incredible at the year Jeremey Hill had considering he was running into 8, 9 sometimes 10 man fronts.
