So my laptop has a broken screen now but the laptop itself is not completely useless since it still works and all, but how would I go about getting some of the crap like my downloaded tv episodes off if it and transferred to my desktop? TIA.

HDMI or VGA cable it up to a monitor/tv. Transfer everything after that to an external hard drive.
