Not sure if this has been discussed in the 8 pages so far but every time a "Most valuable athletic department" list comes out there is a reason SC comes in around #10 or so.
Do we share a state with Clemson? Sure. But SC dominates the entire state outside of the little corner in the NE. I can't tell you how many students from Winthrop, CoC, the Citadel, Wofford, etc. grew up as Carolina fans and remain so throughout their lives.
eta: We have a little more than 30,000 enrolled in Columbia, about 40,000 if you count the satellite campuses. Clemson only has about 18,000 on their 1 campus.
