While plenty of big things are going to happen until then, here's the best guess of what the rankings might be, keeping in mind 1) the perception of the teams at the end of 2012, 2) the returning talent, and 3) the brand name and how the voters usually rank to the top programs. One other thing to remember here, these are NOT the CFN rankings. This is what we think they're going to be to start the season and not a ranking of the best teams going into the year.

1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. Texas A&M
4. Oregon
5. Louisville
6. Clemson
7. Georgia
8. South Carolina
9. Michigan
10. LSU
11. Notre Dame
12. Florida
13. Oklahoma
14. Florida State
15. Stanford
16. Nebraska
17. UCLA
18. Texas
19. USC
20. Wisconsin
21. Oklahoma State
22. Miami
23. Boise State
24. Virginia Tech
25. Kansas State

Other SEC teams that are predicted to receive votes:

29. Ole Miss
32. Vanderbilt
40. Mississippi State
43. Arkansas
49. Missouri

2 out of the top 4 and 5 out of the top 10

Based on the schedule alone . . . A&M should be no better than 8.

Shouldn't Georgia have to beat South Carolina at some point this decade before they get automatically ranked ahead of them?

I cant take a list seriously that has clemson ahead of us. They actually have a fairly tough schedule because of playing uGa. If they 1-2 against them, us, and fsu, they shouldnt finish near the top ten. Just kind of a slap in the face to have them and uga right ahead of us.

Isn't Michigan coming off of a 5 loss season? Otherwise, looks okay I guess.

Every SEC team in that top 25 would at the very least beat OSU and likely throttle them.

The Buckeyes are ging to waltz through a disgustingly easy schedule on the way to being the latest sacrificial lamb before the alter of whoever emerges from the SEC. They are Notre Dame with better QB play.

Agreed, both Clemson and Oregon should be ahead of A&M until our defense shows they can be a decent unit again. A&M should start out 5-7 range IMO.

The thing about our team next year though is that our defense could be poor and we could still win 9-10 games with our schedule.

Top 10 finish for us would be good. Don't think we can make it through the schedule without a loss or two.

But Louisville at 5.... .... I know absolutely nothing about Louisville but I still think that's a April fools joke.

I wouldn't be surprised for an Ohio State media push landing them at #1. LSU was the "clear" preseason #1 until mid-summer and then USC ended up taking it. Not that any of this matters, that's just how the trend usually goes.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Ole Miss land in the top 25. A great recruiting class got Alabama in the top 25 to start 2008.

That list is obviously reactionary to bowl games.

My question is; why is LSU so high?

I realize it's a pre-preseason poll.

Just sayin.
