I had to check the date this was posted to make sure this wasnt one of the older threads covering this topic almost word for word.

This question is extremely short-sighted. No aggie has any regrets about joining the SEC.
Well, it was a legit question on my part. I don't normally speculate on the Rant about other teams' past seasons, but since LSU refuses to participate in basketball my March is a little empty.

Shortsighted? Yes, extremely- the SEC is far more successful and stable than the Big 12. But a one-time run to the Big Game is always something most fans can at least consider a worthwhile proposition.

Asking A&M this isn't like asking LSU or UGA if they wished they'd move to another conference for a year; you guys (Aggies) just had a magic season, that if placed inside the Big 12 where you had been, you'd maybe have won it all.

To the Bama fan saying the Tide have been undefeated... maybe not. There were quite a few capable teams in conference that might have beaten you, had you played them the week following the LSU game. I think we took something out of you for awhile, that you didn't get back until the bowl game. Just my opinion.

Again, I can't stress enough how foolhardy it is to assume that A&M would have enjoyed the same success had we not joined the SEC. Biggest thing is the coach--Sherman would undoubtedly have still been a hot seat coach going into last season, and would NOT have started JFF. That right there sinks the logic. Sumlin brought a new coaching staff, swagger, and attitude to the program that we simply didn't have under Sherman, not to mention a style of play that was paramount to our success in year 1. JFF was the dynamite that set it all off.

I honestly think that this past year in the SEC has done just as much as a Natty in the Big 12 would have.

Without A&M (and Mizzou), they'd have played 3 pre-expansion east teams instead of just the one they played (that just happened to be 1-7 Tennessee), so maybe they would have picked up Georgia, Florida or S. Carolina with at least one of those spots. Playing 2 good SEC teams has meant a loss for Bama the last two years. Doubtful anything would have been different last year if they had played one of the good east teams. Or (God forbid!) two. They damned near lost to Georgia in the SECCG as it was.
