I didn't see this in the first 2 pages, so sorry if Germans. I thought this was interesting. Any player who targets a defenseless player with a hit above the shoulders will automatically be ejected from the game, in addition to the 15-yard penalty. Your thoughts?
USA Today - NCAA approves....

They will face liability issues if, after all the proven research about hits to the head causing serious brain damage, they dont make serious changes. Nobody wants this ; they have to do it.

fricking stupid. Ejectable actions should be stuff so over the top that there isn't any way of defending them. Now some DB who mistimes his hit is going to get tossed? Please.

Automatic ejection is wrong. Should be a 15 yrd penalty and should be looked into after the game with a decision coming after with very few cases of suspension

Agreed. This isn't the NFL.

I guess it's a good thing Eric Reid entered the draft. He may have missed some playing time next year.

This.

Half the time what is considered "targeting" is simply a DB arriving a fraction of a second to early or late on a hit.

They also made what I think should be called the "Lane Kiffin Rule."
quote:

Requiring that any number changes that occur during a game to be reported directly to the referee, who will make an announcement.

I realize that they want to keep players safe, but this seems really strict to me. Especially the part about how it will be enforced - if it happens in the 2nd half of a game, the player will miss the rest of the game and the first half of the team's next game. I think ejections should be for intentional actions. If it's a case of bad timing, I don't think a player should be ejected for that.

Why can't they just make it where if they are going to call a player for targeting the play must be reviewed? I feel like that would help a lot even though it might slow the game down a little bit

One of the first things Tony Kornheiser said on PTI was "An LSU Safety will be ejected next year in the Alabama-LSU game"

The pussification began when they started using helmets.

Was just coming to say this. This will be only enforced against LSU like the Brad Wing penalty or the leverage call on the missed extra point in the AU game.

He's 100% right. And it's the only time it will be called all season.

I'm sure Bama fans will be here shortly to discuss how other teams aren't as disciplined

Even shittier then the initial rule.

Too much power given to refs with such a subjective rule.

Ole Miss had a safety suspended one game for a bullshite call then Slive allowed Saban to handle the Dial hit "internally". The league rules are selectively enforced its a joke.
