How is South Carolina only an SEC Championship away from being considered among the elite of the conference?

Alabama has 23 SEC titles
Tennessee has 13 SEC titles
Georgia has 12 SEC titles
LSU has 11 SEC titles
Florida has 8 SEC titles
Auburn has 7 SEC titles

You're telling me a single SEC title will make South Carolina a part of the so-called "Big 6"?

Don't forget that we were two points from beating LSU and Alabama was FAR from unbeatable. The gap really isn't as big as people are making it out to be.

It's hard to call someone "unbeatable" when they actually lost a game, so your point is pretty obvious.

After all, auburn was only a bare 49 points from doing it themselves.

Thanks! I have been looking for a good example of a blatant straw person argument. You have real talent for warping logic - you may want to consider something in sales management.

I'm intellectually honest enough that I have to agree with the Bama fan here.

Why you do this DontCare? Don't care?

I guess the OP could have made his point better this way: would it make any sense to bring in a Maryland or Rutgers like the Big whatever did this past season? My answer is NO. A lot of the talking heads keep calling N.Car. & Duke the cream of the cream of the ACC. What would they bring to the SEC beyond the obvious in basketball & Carolina in baseball? Is being good in one sport worth it to bring in all their sports teams?

so, you refer to the smaller schools as welfare cases, literally suggest that we should evaluate the value of prospective SEC schools based on the revenue they bring in (solely based on FB revenue, most likely), and then call my hyperbole a straw person argument simply to escape having to address the shittiness of your suggestion? of course i was taking your suggestion to its most absurd extreme, but my point is that it would be a real disservice to evaluate conference members based solely on revenue. i mean, do you really think the SEC should be run as a plutonomy?

Dontcare, here is my post and then yours, in their entirety:
quote:

quote: You know, there IS a legitimate point in here about welfare in the SEC. A&M can't be grouped in with the others because their income in their first year has been outstanding. But considering we're already subsidizing half the conference, do we really want to consider bringing in more welfare cases? Give us two new teams that can really raise the level of basketball revenue, or sit tight, in my opinion.
***************************************
that's a great idea. why don't we cut out the lesser earning schools. then, once they're gone, we can cut out a few of the remaining schools that earn less than the top two. then, we can cut the final lesser earning team out. one-team conference is a great idea! please share more of your insane and completely worthless ideas with the rant.

My comment was two simple paragraphs - 1)an observation that a handful of schools are making the bulk of the revenue, and 2) when we expand, we should look for 2 schools who can increase the revenue for the conference, perhaps by strengthening basketball.

Somehow, you went from this to an idea of evaluating each school based on their revenue and cutting the conference until there's only one team left. Rather than continue your asinine rant, why not go back and try to understand the discussion?

that is a direct quote. how, then, am i incorrect in assuming that your argument is based on the idea of evaluating the value of prospective SEC members based on revenue?

i'll concede that my argument went in the wrong direction initially, but i stand by my position that basing SEC membership on revenue is a poor idea.

This, but everyone better watch out for Ole Miss, not maybe as a contender but as a spoiler. Actually have Ole Miss going 9-3 or 8-4 next season

Do you truly not understand the difference between basing the invitation to new members on revenue, versus kicking out existing members based on revenue?

It is the LATTER that is so ridiculous and the argument you are attacking. I never indicated anything of the sort.

If we add two more members to make 16, what do you propose the criteria should be? Other than academics, what factor other than revenue and markets would we consider?

You took a perfectly reasonable statement and turned it into stupidity, and then attacked the stupidity. This is the textbook definition of a straw person argument.

I personally think Auburn and Tennessee are in danger of falling out of the "Big6." They certainly haven't yet, and they both deserve the benefit of the doubt based on their history and tradition, and I mean absolutely no disrespect to either program, but the future does not look bright for either program IMO.

That said, as an LSU fan, I certainly hope I am wrong. I would prefer Auburn and UT to get their shite together quickly.
