Mental Math Genius Claims Humans Are Being Taught Math Incorrectly

Scott Flansburg, the proclaimed Human Calculator, claims that humans are wired to do math but we have been taught math incorrectly.
Mr. Flansburg said that in most cultures, the natural tendency is to read from left to right. However, for some reason mathematicians have developed a mathematical system that sums numbers from right to left, requiring the "carry over" technique which makes mental math difficult for most people.
He said that we need to rewire our brains to do all math from left to right just like we read.
Here's an example. Sum the following numbers in your mind the normal way (right to left with the carry over technique) and time yourself:
43
57
98
22
38
55
99
84
75
95
Jot down your answer and how long it took you to reach that answer.
Now, add the numbers in the opposite way, from left to right. You do this by starting with the tens column like this:
40 + 50 = 90 + 90 = 180 + 20 = 200 + 30 = 230 + 50 = 280 + 90 + 80 + 70 + 90 = 610
Now add the ones column to that number:
610 + 7 + 3 = 620 + 8 + 2 = 630 + 8 = 638 + 5 = 643 and so on...
You'll realize that you can easily calculate the answer in your mind by adding the numbers from left to right instead of from right to left. No carry overs.
He went on to state that he's developed a groundbreaking mathematical system that starts with 0 instead of 1. He goes so far to state that 0 is not only the first number in the system, it is the most important number in the system. In his words, "Zero is THE number. The numeric system falls apart without it."
Instead of using a system based on 1 - 10, Scott uses a system based on 0 - 9.
With this new system, humans can easily perform incredibly complex mental math.
Also, he and a few scientists have used perfect numbers to create geometrically perfect diagrams that when recreated in fields of wheat have interfered with natural magnetic fields. They believe that by creating mathematically perfect diagrams anywhere in the universe, we affect the universe at a quantum level because it is governed by quantitative laws.
May explain portals, time travel, etc.

I add numbers like that already

I want what he's smoking whenever he came up with the stuff at the end

He's doing it wrong and y'all are doing it wrong. I have the right way but I'm not going to tell y'all how to do it.

how will this help me count cards at a casino?

You edited the numbers so it equalled 666. I like your style. I would have made it equal some play on 69, cause that's how I roll.

Technically we all do. That is how the base 10 system works.

Cool stuff. I'm just going to keep using my $5 calculator.

Screw that wimpy base 10 system. I use base 16, 0-9 & A-F. Here ya go, add this up:
4b 69 6c 6c 73 20 69 73 20 6d 79 20 62 6f 79 21
Or if you prefer binary:
01001011011010010110110001101100011100110010000001101001011100110010000001101101011110010010000001100010011011110111100100100001
Both the same...

I think I just found out how bad I am at word problems.

Sure

It's easier to teach, and no one teaches mental math. Plus it makes subtraction easier.

I'm not sure how our system is based on 1-10 now but whatever.

What the hell does this even mean? How can numbers that are the sum of its divisors that aren't itself explain time travel? What the frick does 6 do to explain a damn portal?
This just seems like a guy trying to sound smart.
I think a class on mental math would be awesome. It could have a final exam where the teacher calls on individual students and makes them do stuff like 47*63 in 6 seconds

I started adding like that in 2nd grade. Seriously. I remember explaining how I added to my mom and she didn't understand why I did it that way.
I don't understand the 0-9 thing though, and the last paragraph sounds like that guy might be taking too much acid.
