Keep hearing about academic restrictions, but I don't really see it. I mean they landed CP last year and signed Omari Phillips who was academically ineligible at UF. So what is the rap on this guy?

Jimmy Cheek has been UT's chancellor since '09 - he came from UF and was well regarded at UF while he was there.
I have no idea why he is being blamed for UT's downfall in athletic's?

Maybe you should just let the thread unfold and see how it shapes up. I bet you will find the answer to your question.

We want to place the blame on anyone we can and apparently with a Chancellor from UF and an AD from Bama those are the two most likely victims of UT fan rage.

Mike Hamilton should be blamed for most of it.

He is pro-academics and there is nothing wrong with that, but he pro academia to the point where he doesn't feel athletics are as big as they truly are to some institutions. He has done some undercutting and a lot of negative behind the scenes things restricting the athletics department at UT. If you look at past interviews with Kiffin and Dooley and even recent interviews with Fulmer and Hart, they all alude to it without coming right out and saying it.
Mike Hamilton deserves 75% of the blame for the shape the AD is in at UT, but Cheek is making it harder to fight out of. He was the wrong hire. If UT hires Brian Noland, you are looking at a much different situation right now. Noland is young, in his forties and understands the importance of athletics. He is leading a revival up the road at ETSU.

1) Thorton Academic center
2) No underwater basket weaving major (that is found at all schools in the SEC currently save maybe Vandy)
3) Contributed to power struggle between AD/boosters
4) Butch Jones
There's a reason the guy will be let go by the end of the year.
