They have an electronic eye every 10 yards,

When do you see a RB/WO with their hand in the dirt. I would rather see em time them after 5-10 yrds.

Just because the NFLN only cares about the 40 time doesn't mean that's the only data they're gathering.

True.

This is absurd. Do you want the NFL to turn into the arena league and let the WRs get a 5 yard running start? 1 of the most important thing that makes a good WR/RB is how fast can they get out of their stance and moving forward for a RB and how fast a WR can get off the line and get past the DB. The first few steps. And can you guess what split NFL scouts look at? Its the starting split. It shows how quick they can get out of the stance and how many steps it takes them to get to top speed.

Rarely in football do you see plays go over 25 yards. The average yards per play in the NFL last season was around 5.3yds. Its a stop and go type of game, which is exactly what the 40 shows. Letting them get a running start would only show the player at top speed, and there arent many plays where you would be at top speed in the NFL. Sure, there are deep plays. But, they all start with the players at a stand still.

Totally agree about Knile Davis being good in the pros. If he can get into the right system and work on the fumbles, he will be damn good.
