West Alabama Narcotics agents have arrested nearly 30 University of Alabama students for marijuana and drug possession charges today.
According to jail records, 29 young men who appear to be in their early 20s were charged with marijuana possession, distribution of a controlled substance or possession of drug paraphernalia on Tuesday.
The majority of those arrested identify themselves as UA students on Facebook profiles.
The arrests are the culmination of a two-month investigation by the narcotics task force and local law enforcement agencies, said Tuscaloosa Police spokesman Sgt. Brent Blankley. Further information about the investigation will be released at a press conference scheduled for 3 p.m.
Officers began serving the search and arrest warrants at 4 a.m.
According to jail records, most of those arrested are between 18 and 20 years old and either live on or adjacent to campus.
