NCAA's new helmet-to-helmet rule will force college football players to relearn how to tackle
quote:
NCAA forced the issue this week by recommending a rule that will eject anyone who is flagged for targeting a defenseless player.
quote:
Ejections will be subject to booth review. The replay official cannot call a personal foul that wasn't called on the field, but can uphold or overturn one.

Can you imagine the outcry if South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney gets ejected for blasting a quarterback in the facemask?

Offensive players will be coached to drop their heads in order to draw ejections.

The rule is fine if it is deemed the defensive player did it intentionally. The problem is it is too broad. Helmet to helmet hits happen too often by accident for this to be a hard rule.
What they need to get rid of is when you have a defensive player that has a WR in a defenseless position and winds up to clock them above the shoulders. That's how people get really hurt. Stuff like this:
Hit on Mike Evans
Or it could be off the ball stuff like this:
Quinton Dial hit
Or especially something like this:
Eric Martin hit
The problem is a hit like this ends up with an ejection now:

Or if you want the longest explanation possible for the helmet to helmet that is most dear to Aggies:

Well hell put Craig Loston on the bench then because that's his only play.

Why not outlaw tackling altogether? Make it a flag football contest with everyone wearing sumo wrestler costumes and Mark Kelso helmets? Then, we could all sit around the fire, roasting marshmellows, singing kumbaya.
