It's no more ridiculous than saying that Clowney is the #1 pick in the draft right now

I asked who is better than Clowney, not talking about the Heisman.
Clowney is easily the best player in CFB

you think that Clowney wouldn't be #1?

I would argue that Manziel is the best college football player.
Clowney easily the best NFL prospect.
Those have always been, and will always be, two separate metrics.
Occasionally, the answer to those two questions are the same person. Most often they are not.
Tebow & Eric Crouch come to mind.

Say hello to Timmy Tebow. And he was better than your guy.

So spurrier threw a wheel at the media while talking about Clowney? Fricking weird.

The way it sounds I think Spurrier "spoked" him...

This thread is not a particularly good representation of some on this board, that's for sure.
Spurrier is simply trying to use his bully pullpit for the benefit of one of his players - getting his name out there early and often.

Just glad to hear SOS dispel the nonsense about JD sitting out a year.

No, in terms of being a bigger impact on the next level. And he makes sense, if you actually look at it.....
Look at Manziel: he was red-shirted as a true freshman, and played last season as a 2nd-year RS-freshman. Next season - 2013 - would be Manziel's 3rd and final season of college FB before becoming eligible to enter the NFL draft. Just like Clowney....
But are all the national sports media arguing that Manziel should sit out 2013 and prepare for the NFL draft? A QB - especially a mobile dual-threat QB - puts himself in more danger of injury than a DE does. Would ANYONE say that Manziel is more physically prepared to withstand the pounding he would take versus SEC defenses in 2013 than Clowney will be versus SEC offenses?
But no one talks about Football Johnny sitting out. Protecting his future.
Why, you say?
Because Football Johnny's future in football does not matter as much as Clowney's future does. That much is obvious, and Spurrier is simply stating the obvious.....

Clowney has relied on his talent alone
Maybe he should have relied on that more at the LSU game last year. Dude was absent and gave up on plays.

How does "he may be bigger than [JFF] right now" turn into "he may be a bigger impact [in the future] at the next level"
Now does not equal the future. Just saying. If you want to talk about NFL prospects then run away with it all you want. But that's not what was said originally by Spurrier.
