Tennessee coach Dave Serrano's opening day lineup card will likely feature 5 true freshman and just one returnee from last season's squad.

This season's roster features 23 newcomers and nine returnees. Serrano dismissed or did not renew the scholarship of 16 players since the end of the 2012 season.

"These guys will have a better understanding of what to do. Twenty-one true freshman is a lot, but these are my guys. If you did not buy in last season, we didn't have a place for you. It's a much closer group now."
Holy shite I have never heard of this. Basically a whole new team.

Not surprised, Serrano cleaning house.

How many of the cuts were done between the fall and the spring? LSU cuts some kids between the fall and spring every year and it bothers me.

Yeah. Looks like he basically cut every player from the Raleigh era.
I don't really follow baseball that closely, but I like this.
Raleigh is the worst coach I have ever seen in sports at any level. Now coaching a 13-year old travel team in Knoxville.

Will Maddox, an All-SEC Freshman Team selection in 2012, will be the only returnee from last season's opening day lineup.

I like it. If those other guys aren't going to win you games, it's time to move forward.

Roster changeovers arent uncommon in baseball with the very limited # of scholarships, but this is definitely a house cleaning. Serrano probably just wants to get his guys in to play his game and the old guys just didnt care to buy in nor were probably talented.

See it's facts like this that I do not understand how anyone can be mad if Saban medicals someone or processes someone.
In non-revenue sports (baseball, track, golf, etc.), you get CUT. Done. See ya.
In football, you get help to transfer out or medical scholarship where you still go to school for free without any need for your athletic services.

Fluker makes a great point though.
Baseball players get dropped just like terds.
But, oh no oh no if Nick Saban just puts someone on medical scholarship where they still get free education......the entire sports world ends.

Does Tennessee have the lottery, if so how many schollies does that provide? NCAA doesn't allow many baseball scholarships.

NCAA allows 12.5 scholarships i think.
Normal player thats a freshman who doesn't have a chance at starting will only get free books every year. Very few players a worth a whole scholarship
And about the lottery, the only SEC schools at a disadvantage because of state lotteries are:
OM
MSU
UA
AU
Every other school gets legalized extra scholarships for home state players. Really isn't fair at all.

Yes, but only in-state kids get scholarships from it.
