The reason professors get money for research and are published is because they're smart and are contributing to the development of thought in their field. Those are the people you should want to be teaching your classes. The fact you don't know this is very telling.

Yes, rectangles aren't all squares. All my best professors were published with multiple grants. Those were the one that challenged me and helped me develop intellectually the most.

I'm guessing you weren't in a technical field in college.
Professors who write a billion journal articles are the worst teachers. They are too busy because they technically have two jobs and guess which one suffers? The poor lowly undergrads who are trapped in their classes
