Per BOL, position undetermined but will be off the field.

If Kirby leaves in the next year or two, Steele would have to be a candidate to replace him. Then again, his defense was shite at Clemson so maybe not

Heard that on the radio earlier. Wonder what capacity he will be in.

The next DC (if Kirby leaves), would prob. be some young gun/up and comer. That tends to be Saban's M.O. for that position.

Kevin Steele is a good coach to have in your back pocket, like Tim Davis, Mike Groh and Billy Napier before him. Former assistants that have to hit the reset button on their career ladder.
Different from the up and comers stashed at GA/off the field positions like Pruitt, Crudup, Sigler, Derrick Ansley, etc.

With the newly deregulated recruiting rules, this is actually a pretty big deal. He's a damn good recruiter. I'm anxious to see what our class is going to be this year. You know Saban is just licking his chops since the NCAA has now removed the muzzle.

The Big 10 is trying to reverse the recruiting rules deregulation. I think most coaches around the country wanted some deregulation but not a complete free for all.

Hired to replace Sigler or Sherrer as a defensive analyst.

May have unique insight to defend the HUNH?

For a non-coaching staff position? He flopped at Clemson but having someone with his experience in a staff position is pretty awesome IMO

Flopped with Carolina Panthers, Bama and Clemson.

You can't blame the 2007 defense solely on Steele. That was a mess that even Saban couldn't handle. Sometimes coaches just need a fresh start or a different scene and I think Steele could be good for our staff. He has a lot of experience and some coaches just perform better when they have better resources. Look at Chavis; he went downhill at UT but at LSU he has better resources and is more successful.

Steele will be fine at his new position. This is a gain for Alabama.

Can you name one time that I have been wrong about a coaching hire?

Yeah terrible defense in 08 too. Luckily Kirby saved the day in 09

It had nothing to do with the personnel or kids adjusting to a new system. 100 percent on Steele.
