NEW ORLEANS — A 23-year-old man faces four counts of attempted first-degree murder for the weekend's quadruple shooting on Bourbon Street during the final weekend of revelry counting down to and culminating with Mardi Gras, police said.

Deron Bridgewater, of Marrero, surrendered Monday after seeing his photograph on a television newscast Sunday night, said New Orleans police spokesman Frank B. Robertson III.

He's cooperating with investigators, Robertson said.

Two men and two women were shot; three have since been released from area hospitals. Of those treated and released, a man was shot in the buttocks, one woman was shot on the chin and right foot, and the second woman was shot on the toe, police said. No ages or names were released.

Bullets hit the fourth victim in the abdomen, thigh and pelvis. He was in stable condition after surgery, police said.

I know we are all supposed to be innocent til proven guilty, but I hope he hurries up and confesses and he is taken off the streets for good.

Just so people are clear, the murder rate in New Orleans might be higher, but for other violent crimes, such as rape and armed robberies, it's below the national average.

I don't know if this was mentioned, but Forbes did a list of the most dangerous cities in America per capita, and including all factors of violent crime, New Orleans didn't crack the list.

Birmingham and Atlanta were listed as 5 and 6 respectively.

I'm sure this has been linked, but I think New Orleans crime suffers a bit from confirmation bias.

Don't let cat or garrison see this post. It might crush their fragile beliefs.

Memphis and St. Louis are on the list as well, if we are including SEC cities.

That's impossible. We learned from the thread last night that Memphis and St. Louis are safer and better cities than New Orleans.
