OSU came in on the first day they were allowed to extend offers and just blanketed our state. That's why a lot of kids like them, they were the first to offer. Give it time, OSU will fade.

SI on Tunsil's recruitment...

quote:

• But what is surely to be the most-discussed nugget from Staples' story is to what lengths the Rebels went to sign Tunsil, who had no previous connection to Ole Miss players or coaches.

Staples' story reveals that Ole Miss defensive line coach Chris Kiffin, the lead recruiter on Tunsil, "exchanged more than 800 Facebook messages with Tunsil and more than 400 with Tunsil's girlfriend." The Rebels also had 14 staff members write letters to Tunsil and four other people close to him.

The Rebels' tactics regarding Tunsil are all within NCAA rules, and with electronic communication restrictions about to be relaxed, probably will become more and more common in future recruiting classes. Plus, the full-court press on Tunsil obviously worked, so it's hard to argue with what Ole Miss did to land the big blue-chipper from Lake City, Fla., however unseemly it might appear to some.
