Say you sign a guy in August and he starts to slack of his senior year academically, you are screwed. Wasted scholarship that could've gone to someone else.

Plus, the hard deadline date lets more schools have fair shots at players. Every school understands the timeline it makes it easier to optimize recruiting time and budgets.



All great points but what about the "we are only giving 1 QB an offer" a 4 star guy accepts, is committed to you til a week before signing day, then poof he's gone, and the school is screwed

I don't think Elliot leaves OSU, but it could happen to OSU this year (although OSU is stacked at the position even without him)

True, but on the flip side, a lower ranked QB gets the spot in his place. Maybe that guy turns out to be a beast. Teams always have backup plans.

If your team doesn't know it's needs, and only recruits 1 QB when that's an area of importance, then they deserve to not get him. If losing 1 recruit hurts your chances of winning next year, then you have more problems than that kid flipping.
