Fair enough, however I must wonder if we, as a fan culture, ever get to the point where our adulation stops to only on the field results and stop propping these mostly egomaniacs (across all sports) as some sort of "great" men. Odds are, you and I both know greater men in our own respective communities.

That is a valid point and something I question at times(esp on sports boards). After all, it's just a damned game.
