I think a lot of you who are saying that Texas isn't southern are confusing the South with the Southeast or the Deep South.
IMO the western boundary of the southeast is probably the Mississippi River, but the broader south goes well into Texas.
Texas isn't southeastern, and it isn't deep south, but a lot of it is certainly southern.
