I was not very impressed with the MS coast. The beaches are manmade and suck--there are no waves, I guess because of the barrier islands. The water is brown and ugly. There's really no reason to go to the beach unless you're a woman who wants to tan.

There's no centralized area for night life; all the casinos are spread out and it's kind of a pain in the arse to go from one bar to another. Ocean Springs was okay in this respect, but Biloxi and Gulfport were lame.

I was fresh out of college (the first time around) and there just weren't enough like-minded people my age around, or if there were, I never found them. Maybe if I had been there when I was ready to settle down with a family... nah it probably still would have sucked.

The best thing the area had going for it was proximity to NOLA and to actually good beaches in Florida, and food. The food was really good. It had influences from New Orleans, south Louisiana, southern culture in general, and of course it had access to fresh seafood.

It wasn't a terrible place to be for the time that I was there, but it's not a place I would ever settle long-term. I'm sure it's perfect for some people, but not for me. However, if I had to pick somewhere in MS, I'd probably pick the coast.

Pretty accurate.

As meh as the coast is there is more "stuff" to do. There's essentially more going on than Jackson or Memphis burbs. It's a melting pot as well - all sorts of people.

The proximity to NOLA and Gulf Shores/Panhandle is also a nice feature.
