Question about TAMU

I have learned a lot about A&M from their posters. They have deep traditions. From going head to head with Texas on a yearly basis. To having one of the loudest student sections. What amazed me though is the amount of people they put into the military. Now my question is , is that why they had to start the don't ask don't tell policy?
