Not true. Charley Pell was the one who got the elite talent heading to Gainesville a few years before SOS arrived.

Saban was hardly mediocre at Michigan State. They were a train wreck when he arrived and were 10-2 his last year. Miami has been horrible since Marino retired because they haven't had a QB.

I'm not bashing Spurrier and it's probably fair to say I prefer Saban because I am a Bama fan and I enjoy watching a good defense punish the opposition as opposed to a flashy offense light it up. Both are great in their own way and in their own right. This is a subjective question, there is no way to "prove" who is the best.
