I ask because when I build mine I'm thinking about using one as my boot drive and HHD for storage.

I know the boot times are really fast for SSD, but I'm not really sure how large of of a drive I should go out of pocket for since I'm only using it for the OS. Is it even worth the cost?

Without a doubt, will never own a PC without one after having one.

My laptop boots so fast, not to mention just how fast the read/write times are.

I got a 180GB one and store my OS and most used programs/games on it, and store my music/pics and stuff on a second 1TB standard HDD.

You can get a 90GB Kingston Hyper SSD for $95 and be more than set for your OS and some often used programs, games etc. They've come down a great deal in price.
