A New Ga. Dome?

During CLM's press conference with bowl officials, the bowl's rep said that funding has been approved for a new Ga. Dome that will rival Jerry's World. The old dome will be completely demolished & the new dome built on the same grounds. Estimated completion 2016 if I heard right. That being true, where would the SECCG be played during construction???

I'm sure all the LSU fans will say New Orleans.

Georgia Tech
It'll be home-field advantage for best in-conference record and we'll be a part of the conference by then

I would assume Jacksonville.
Warm weather, it holds 84,000 for College football games, and they already have a huge SEC game in Florida/Georgia.

I'd love to see the SEC Championship Game played on Grant Field.

Jacksonville or New Orleans.
Those are really the only two realistic possibilities.

Per AJC this week:
quote:
The Georgia Dome would be demolished, and many events held there would move to the new stadium.
The new stadium would be built on the GWCCA campus, with the final selection from two sites – one just south of the Dome and the other a half-mile north of the Dome – deferred until the negotiation of a more definitive memorandum of understanding early next year.

Non of that is accurate.

The REC would never let such a thing happen. If they blow up the Georgia Dome (not likely) the game will be played in Bryant-Denny until Georgia World is completed.

For fricks sake people, they're not gonna demolish the Dome and have the Falcons homeless for 3 or 4 years.

The new stadium for Falcons will be close to the Ga Dome but not on the same site
I guess when there done, they will probably demolish the GA Dome or find another use like the Astrodome

New Orleans or Jacksonville. Tampa could work too I guess, but
I would say Nashville, but weather could be a bit of an issue there.

If none of this is accurate, then the bowl rep has made a complete arse out of himself, as that is exactly what he said. And the article from the Atlanta paper seemingly backs him up, minus comments re any comparisions. He seemed quite emphatic as he said that the new stadium would give the bowl leverage when it comes to being considered for future BCS games in the future.

going to be a retractable roof

There is a big parking lot north of the world congress center (WCC would be in between the old dome and new one. It would be retractable. Old dome would stay around from last I heard.
