Some talking head over the weekend said the Alabama offense is about to play a defense the likes of which it has yet to face, led of course by Manti Teo.

I understand that everything is hype and hyperbole leading up to the big game, but is the ND defense the best Alabama will face? Statistically they are, but considering the level of competition, are they in fact better than LSU's or the other conference defenses they have played?

Probably about even. It is at best marginally better at the back end.

Probably around the same in the front 7.

Secondary... LSU is better, despite Reid's meh season.

Alabama's offense practices vs a defense that is better than Notre Dame's . Also LSU & UGA Defenses are better and have more talent.

LSU after the Bama game just went through the motions.

LSU's defense up to the Bama game was very, very good. Especially when you consider how putrid the offense played for much of that time.

I'm sure in the bowl game LSU will be focused for one more good game, and our defense won't look as spent as we did the last 3 weeks of the season.

LSU's defense is only second in the country to Florida.

Doubtful and if ND is really that good then why did that play so poorly against so many crappy teams?

20-17 vs Purdue really?
13-6 vs Michigan who Bama completely owned
17-14 vs BYU come on....
29-26 in OT vs 6-5 Pitt ?
22-13 vs overrated USC team with bad defense

ND's best win is the 20-13 OT win vs Stanford. There's a pattern here. ND is a low scoring team even against mediocre defenses. Honestly I don't see them scoring over 2 TD's vs Bama and I'm pretty sure Bama has enough offense to score at least 3 TD's vs ND.

I think LSU's defense is more talented for sure and probably "better" as well.

Notre Dame's defense is extremely well coached and disciplined though. They don't have the talent and disruptive ability of LSU in my opinion, but they don't seem to make many mistakes and give you any freebies either. Your offense has to execute and execute and execute some more to be successful against them.

I guess the difference as I see it is that LSU's defense can sometimes blow you up even when your offense executes properly because their guys just beat your guys athletically. However, they may also give up a freebie or two over the course of the game.

Whereas, with ND if your offense can execute consistently (easier said than done) than your offense will win the play more often than not. But they aren't likely to give you many freebies or big plays (particularly in the red zone) so you have to be patient and sustain your execution over a long drive.

The talking heads are like a 20 year old kid making game day picks for the first time.

They actually think they can will their team to victory.

The grind you will hear on the 8th of January will the gnashing of tooth from countless Indiana trailer parks.

ND's front seven is really good and very big. I don't believe they have the speed that LSU does though. We hear this every year. The best defense outside the SEC is better than the defenses in the SEC and every year, people are surprised at how dominant and fast the SEC defenses are. Is ND's defense good? yes. Are they better than LSU's? maybe, maybe not. Bama can tell us after the game.

I have been waiting for this one to come up. Despite Bama fans thinking I am butthurt and such I actually am pulling for them. I cant stand ND - never have and never will.
I was wanting to ask the Bama experts if they think they will hammer ND's DL over and over with the power running game as a primary game plan. I think ND has good talent up front to get where they are but I dont think that they are very deep and I expect them to wear out by third qtr if Bama puts a bunch of long drives on them early. I think it would be a big mistake to throw too much early on and potentially letting them get their D off the field.
