It covers Fedora and UNC, but gives some perspective on the fundamentals of the D.

Don't really understand the new defense too much.. Wouldn't it leave us more vulnerable to the run with less LB's?

From what I understand, in the 4-2-5, your two LBs are only responsible for stopping the run. In the 4-3, they are tasked to pass cover more. I would expect us to recruit DBs more heavily now. If we can develop Cass and Frost, we should be good on the LB front.

Like any defense, it all begins with your front. Optimally, you would have a big nose that needs 2 guys, a tackle that can handle two and a true end. The weakside end actually becomes more of a floating linebacker that will either play hand in dirt or cover a tight end. Then for your secondary, you have a safety and two corners with your other safety a bit bigger in the front box. Then you have two traditional linebackers.

Basically you are speeding up your weakside end/slowing down your third linebacker and speeding up your other linebacker. You have 7 or 8 in the box, but a few of them are smaller and much faster. This requires your front guys to handle the linemen and not allowing the line to get their hands on your small guys so they can fly around and make plays.

That is how I understand the defense anyway.

I thought of those two also as the true linebackers and Trey Johnson would be great in this system as one of the true linebackers. I thought Foster would be the perfect hybrid end/linebacker For the safety/linebacker spot I was thinking the either Frost or Swain would fit the bill. Both are athletic guys that are really fast. The biggest need that we have right now are the true tackles. i think Blackson could be a really good tackle in this system but we lack a nose guard that demands double.

I watched a video on the system and once I watched it, it really made more sense. Of course you do better recruiting specific guys into the spots but this defense seems flexible.

The biggest strength to this system is that you can have 1 personnel package and run the 4-2-5, 4-3 or the 3-4 on any given play. Supposed to be very versatile and that is why it is supposed to be really good against the new spreads.

I think it will do better against spread teams like Ole Miss has moved to, MSU and TAMU. I think it will have a tough time against someone like Bama and UGA that utilizes fullbacks and relies on the run. If a team pulls a tight end around and uses a fullback that the front 3 don't get their hands on early, that lets a few guys get to the faster guys.

So a high paced Offense and an attacking defense?

Anticipation to see next year's season will be like this:

And if it meets or exceeds expectations me and friends watching the game will be like this:

Well, USC has pretty much handled Georgia since they've been running the 4-2-5, and they handled Bama as well one of the two years they played. They did get rolled for 240 yards by Ingram in 2009, but other than that they pretty much shut down Bama and GA's running games with it.
