Over the past few weeks, it seems like every other person I see in Baltimore is wearing Notre Dame gear.

Good.

Maryland was founded as a safe haven for Catholics in the English colonies. Maryland, along with Rhode Island, were forerunners in promoting freedom of worship.

Lord Baltimore was a Catholic. The only Catholic to sign the Declaration of Independence was from Maryland. Incidentally, the safe haven didn't last long. Protestants quickly became the majority in the new colony. The Protestants seized power and Catholics in Maryland were subsequently prohibited from holding office for the 70 years prior to the American Revolution.

I guess this probably isn't relevant to anybody in 2012.

Ancient history, right?

I have lived in Baltimore my entire life, besides my years at UA, and I never knew that.

Learn something new everyday.

My ancestors were tortured and fled France in the 1600's and I hear about their valiant stories just about every time my mother sees a Catholic church. I think it's all relative.
