Since no one took the time to actually answer your question, I will.
The Golden Band from Tigerland told the crowd to "suck that tiger dick". The band director got together with the drum majors and brain stormed a way to get back at them.
"Oh, I know what will get them...SHOW TUNES!"
At that point, they ran around in circles giggling and making jazz hands. That has since been adopted by Scott Cochran into the 4th quarter symbol.
