Before the last five seasons under Nick Saban, Alabama had an 11-year stretch (1997-2007) when it reached double digits in wins only three times, suffered through four losing seasons, four non-bowl years, lost to Auburn six straight years, went to the Music City Bowl twice and even was subjected to the Independence Bowl . . . three times. (Quote from AJC today)

We need a time machine. I wonder how often the term butthurt was used? I now understand why they are so hostile on this board.

LSU had about 100 years of that pre-Saban, so you ought to know the feeling.

I could say the same thing about some LSU fans and the stretch from 89-94 when they didnt have a winning season.

I was on bamamag for a few of those seasons and I can honestly say that a lot of us were in denial. Yeah...we lost a lot of games...but the vast majority of those were close games, with a lot of them being decided in the 4th quarter. I can't recall too many times where we were blown out. There were a few...but not many. I think a lot of us thought that, with a little tweak of the offense here and a little tweak of the defense there, we could get back to winning championships. It wasn't until Saban got here that we realized that we were nowhere near a championship caliber team and that no amount of tweaking would have brought us closer to that level.

didn't become a bama fan until april of 98, i grew up a gator lol. 99 was freaking aweseome beating florida twice... outside of that not a lot to cheer about personally. i took those years pretty well because i had never experience the good years at bama, if we went back to those years now ugh, i don't want to think about it.

Consoled myself knowing they had 2 SEC titles, and double the ten win seasons of our in-state rivals in Bama's 2nd worst decade ever, while they were in their golden yrs.

I have to admit, it was depressing. Dubose damn near ruined the program, Franchione gave us false hope, and Shula was Shula.....

That is exactly the kind of post Auburn posters were making. Great job.
