Ok, who else thinks Franklin should aim higher? Granted, he might get NC State into the Orange Bowl, but I don't think he's going back to the ACC now. I would be absolutely shocked if Auburn doesn't get into a bidding war for him. I say Auburn, because his style of coaching would fit right into Auburn's traditional style of play. I don't think he'd have the same success at Tennessee or Arkansas.

I think this guy's the real deal. They went to a bowl last year so they didn't sneak up on anyone, and yet they went 8-4, 5-3 in the SEC. Considering the 3 losses in conference were to SC, Fla and UGA, and the other was on the road at Northwestern (9-3), that's damn impressive... for a Vanderbilt team. He should be SEC Coach of the Year. Anyone who disagree, should at least remember... he's at Vanderbilt.

A&M fans touting Sumlin- you're new, so you may not realize. 8-4 at Vandy is like you guys being in the BCS championship game.

Yeah it's basically a lateral move. He doesn't seem to gain much IMO.

Seriously, hope he turns it down

mid-leve ACC team = dead end road...he can get a better job than that with 1 more good year at Vandy

No way he goes there. Vandy can match anything NC State could offer

Yes we would have beaten Vandy this year had the refs not made the incorrect call on the fourth down on their final drive, but I'd really like Franklin to go anywhere. He'll have Vandy bowl bound every year and we have to play those bastards every year.

Latarian's X-Mas list:

Dear Santa,

All I want for Christmas is a Coaching Changes board

Yow has already come out and said that Franklin isn't interested and that he wants to build a winning program at Vandy.

James Franklin is the SEC Coach of the Year in my book. This is the first time since the 1950s Vanderbilt has had a season this good.

NC State's Yow denied that she contacted Franklin re: the coaching vacancy.

or Freeze.

NC State isn't a bad job, but not really attractive either.

I don't see it as a lateral move at all. There is a ceiling for what he can accomplish at Vandy being in the SEC.

In the ACC, he could put together a couple of 10-11 win seasons that he could parlay into an even greater job.

Yea I agree...his chances at going to the SECC at Vandy is slim to none while currently in the ACC a 6-6 Georgia Tech team will play for the ACC championship.

I think he's hit that ceiling right now, but I also think he can skip past NC State and right into the big boys... if he wants.

Re him staying at Vandy; sure he'll say that. But it's a delicate thing to build a bowl-eligible team there. I remember reading a SI article about Snyder at K State years ago, when the Big 8 just became the Big 12; Snyder had crafted his schedule with cupcakes (and the rest of the Big 8) to get to 9-2, and to eventually make a run at Oklahoma and Nebraska. He was worried about adding those SWC schools, and how his 9-2 record might dip to 6-5 with a better conference slate.

This is where Vandy is now. Franklin can't afford to play up, or his record will dip. In a few years, MAYBE he can do it. But for now, he has to make a weak schedule and hope he can catch one of the big guys napping (like South Carolina almost was).
