Hell no. If Saban wins a title this year , IMO ,it will be a top 5 ALLTIME CFB run. Bear had several advantages that Saban doesn't. The Bear don't have scholly limits, so he would recruit a guy just so other teams couldn't get him. He also was at one of the few schools whom played on TV almost every weekend( this was a huge recruiting advantage back then). Also ,Bear didn't have to deal with the parity that Saban has. IMO Saban's run is more impressive

Gotta use winning percentage as a metric to compare the two eras.

Interestingly enough, Bama played 8 conference games in 1972 and 1973. There was a lot of variability in the conference schedule back then. Some years they played 6 games. Some years they played 7. And some years they played 8.

I posted the other day that Spurrier is the only coach I know of (other than Bear Bryant) in the post-integration era to have 2 or fewer conference losses each season over a 12 year period (Spurrier's entire tenure at Florida).

I'm sure if Saban stays at Bama another 7 years he might do the same.

Florida build a statue for Spurrier yet?
