At some point, I think we have to recognize that Pinkel may be one of the best evaluators of football talent in the country. That may sound hyperbolic, but I don't think it actually is.

On 9/27, just prior to the Arkansas State game, 3star unranked DE Jhonny Williams from Berrian Springs MI committed to Mizzou with little fanfare or coverage.
Suddenly this week, he's a hot commodity. Notre Dame, which is only about 20mi from Berrian Springs just offerred Jhonny. Three days later, Michigan has now offered.
How is it that a school like ND is just now figuring out a kid within a long bicycle ride is worth offering? How is it the state school of Michigan is just now finding this kid? Surely it isn't because he committed to Missouri, or is it? Will Rivals now give him a fourth star?
btw- Danario Alexander grew up 20mi south of Baylor. Baylor offered within a week of Danario commiting to Mizzou.

Well, "the system" definitely does work. Not sure how many of you guys remember the MANY years predating HCGP when being a Mizzou football fan didn't offer too many opportunities to leave a game with a smile -- but the staff has consistently recruited and developed talent very well.
Many fans just look at recruiting rankings and, while on field success has allowed easier access to higher ranked athletes, why would we want the staff to stop finding future stars that other teams overlook?
As you say, I think more fans are recognizing this, but it's difficult since the entire college football world puts so much emphasis on rankings. Just as there are still some fans who don't think the move to the SEC was the BEST MOVE EVER AND WHO EVEN CARES ANYMORE ABOUT GAMES WITH THAT OTHER KU!!!, there is another larger group of fans who still rely more on ntl ranking services to evaluate Mizzou's classes, when on the field success is really the ultimate evaluation factor.
