Aggies and Mizzou fans: Differences between the SEC & Big 12

Just curious about your observations from your first season in the SEC. What are some things the SEC is better at and what are things the Big 12 is better at? Anything you particularly miss about playing in the Big 12?

Not speaking on behalf of the fanbases of these two schools, I would imagine both of them miss the regional rivalries

Mizzou misses the fact that half their schedule was easier than Vanderbilt

Nope.

I can't think of a single thing the Big 12 is better at. From PR, to negotiating contracts, to pretty much everything they are subpar to the SEC. They think very reactively and the schools do not get along or care about the betterment of the conference as a whole with a strong delineation of the haves and have nots. A&M and Nebraska basically aligned to keep Texas in check to an extent but once NU left the sips went nuts, it's basically just the Bevo 10 now. OU lost all leverage when they tried to go to the Pac 12 and failed, now Texas slaps them around like a bitch as well. Most of the schools are simply too weak to do anything because none of the other major conferences want them.
It's just dramatic how much better run the SEC is. Just spend 5 minutes on the SEC website and then 5 minutes on the Big 12 website.

I miss not being able to play Baylor every year. Not so much our rivals but because they're a
perennial doormat that's just 90 miles away from College Station. Tickets to their stadium were always readily available on the cheap. Games in Waco never felt like a true road game for A&M. There's a reason why we call Baylor's stadium, "Kyle Field North."
As for SEC/Big 12 distinctions, I would say that SEC officiating is just as awful as Big 12 officiating.

SEC is better at everything except having Texans to talk shite to.

Biggest difference is that even the teams that are down in the SEC can bite you. With the home field and a little momentum, anything can happen.
Also, the home field advantage in the SEC is more prevalent top to bottom. Only a handfull of Big 12 teams had a real home field advantage... OU and Tech were loud and it was worth some points to the home team.
Texasss had good teams but DKR was quiet and not intimidating at all. Never has been.
SEC venues and atmosphere are overall much much better from top to bottom. Only OU and Tech are even close to SEC atmosphere IMO.

The SEC is better in literally every facet. Losing the rivalry with Texas was unfortunate but everyone knows we will meet up again whether it be in a bowl game or regular season.

I don't miss a damn thing about the XII. A&M should have joined the SEC eons ago. We are much more similar to every SEC school than we ever were to any of the old Big 8 schools. The SEC is much better run, top to bottom. The fans are much more knowledgeable about their schools, their rivals, and just college sports in general. I would say that Nebraska was the exception to this. But understand that we had little to no history with any of the North schools. Also, Tech didn't join the SWC until 1960, so we have more history with Arkansas, and about as much with LSU.
Someone posted above about how Tech and tu fans threw batteries, ice, and other objects at our fans and team. tu would also mock The Corps with a "hail hitler" salute. Totally classless. You just can't miss this.
I will miss our rivalry with tu, despite their fan behavior. I honestly thought that they would continue playing it on Thanksgiving, OOC. However, they won't play us. Too bad. I don't care if we ever play Tech or Baylor again.
Again, we should have joined with Arkansas in '91. Sorry it took us so long.

I don't miss a single thing from the Big 12. That was a bad fit for A&M from day one, and I go to my grave thinking that was part of the reason for our lost decade (coaching being the other part).
The SEC and not playing Texas is changing this program for the better. The future is so bright compared to spring 2011 when the LHN rolled out.

The presence of a web forum that allows you to converse with fans of other teams regularly makes it very easy to dislike other conference teams, and the fans of other conference teams.
Besides that, we lose a lot more.

I think the SEC is better at kicking our arse than the Big 12 was.
That and the toilet paper is softer and the girls are hotter.

Well they play this thing called defense in the SEC.

Personally, I feel that the SEC, despite the jokes and stuff, has much more respect between schools, and I get the impression that everyone wants SEC teams to win out of conference to preserve the integrity of the conference. I found myself wanting every Big12 team to lose non-conference games (esp. Texas and Baylor, being an Aggie from Waco). I could be wrong about this, just my personal observations.

Bump for future reading.

one of the biggest differences is the interaction between the fan bases. us, tu, tard, and baylor would spew hate towards one another, it wasnt trolling or being sarcastic, it was hate. i would always find myself rooting against them in their bowls and could care less about what that would do to the big12 perception. its not the same in the sec which is really nice

Honestly don't miss playing any of those schools. Not even Texas. SEC is run better, has much more passionate fan bases, more $, better quality televised games. The refs are terrible though.
I love the SEC more than I thought I would - which was already quite a bit.

I'm gonna miss playing tu annually.
Other Ags will probably flame me for saying that, but being from Austin (or just the great state of Texas in general), I grew up around it. I miss it already.
Hopefully the Cotton Bowl will give us the chance to get scoreboard over those punk bitches

Thing I'll miss: The Thanksgiving day ritual. I honestly don't know how I'll react this year; the day has been set for me my whole life. To be clear, those longhorns especially DeLoss Dodds, have been such arseholes that playing them seems just about as dumb as can be for the moment. But I will miss that day's comfort in knowing what is up for quite a while. Perhaps when LSU is on the docket it will return to some sense of Normalcy.
Coming to the SEC has been such a positive net gain there is no reason to ever look back. The Big XII had no soul in terms of rivalries. Take A&M/Mizzou... I just didn't get fired up for that, and many on either side have said as much. There were two games that got my attention A&M/Horns and A&M/Tech. I had lifelong friends at each school so there was a ton of bragging rights. That's about it.
What is different/Better:
TV. Plain and simple. In years' past, I would never have complained about an 11 am game just because we were on TV so little. Now, you can afford to groan about it because someone, either you or your foe, wasn't good enough to get a 2:30 or 6 pm slot.
Fans
Just so different, but in my head I knew it would be. Going back to when we played LSU in the late 80s/early 90s, I can vividly remember time after time when some drunken Tibideaux would be in a verbal altercation with me and we would be questioning each other's family tree's lack of branches all the while he would be feeding me the best gumbo or sauce piqaunt I've ever eaten and getting me drunk on his bourbon. That's just fricking awesome. Even the "doormats" show up, and if you're not careful, their teams can get a win. Baylor never had the fans and outside of the last 3 years would never have challenged for a win.
Stadiums: They're packed with fans and they ooze with tradition. Texas has the size, but it really feels much smaller because they're so quiet. Wine and cheese Austinites that have no skin in the game treat the games like socail mixers rather than College Football where one loss means everything.
Lastly, and I say this without any malice, I feel bad for TCU. They were sold a bill of goods that I don't think will come to long term fruition, and worse yet, they are getting only a partial share fo the money. Their full participation gets only partial payment. Frick that.
Anyway, water is wet, the sky is blue, and the Ags are where they should have been since 1991.
