I really can't imagine Smart being considered Saban's successor at this point just because of his age and Saban's age. My guess would be Saban will be there at least 5 more years, and I doubt Smart would hang out there for that long just waiting.
He's been with Saban since 2004 when he was 28. Obviously Saban likes him. He's been the DC since Saban went to Alabama.
I'm guessing he is very well paid, and it would take the right job for him to put his situation at risk at his age. UK is not a place to take that risk for him, in my opinion.

I'm liking Tim DeRuyter the more I read about him. He's first on my list. The guy looks like he can really coach.

Yeah working under Saban most of your career and then moving to HC at a rebuild job like UK is a big step. I understand he has had success recently, but I think that it is easier to be successful at that job than HC at UK.
