I should probably ask a gump, but is Smart considered Sabans successor as Bama HC?
He is so young and has had the job for a while. Saban obviously didn't give the job to someone so young, when there are many more qualified, experienced and successful defensive coaches around when Saban took the job, unless he saw something in him.

I really can't imagine Smart being considered Saban's successor at this point just because of his age and Saban's age. My guess would be Saban will be there at least 5 more years, and I doubt Smart would hang out there for that long just waiting.
He's been with Saban since 2004 when he was 28. Obviously Saban likes him. He's been the DC since Saban went to Alabama.
I'm guessing he is very well paid, and it would take the right job for him to put his situation at risk at his age. UK is not a place to take that risk for him, in my opinion.
