I think that it's very easy to over-analyze football. Last season, I was measuring the ratio of yards to points in the 1st half versus the 2nd half of games. The results were interesting but really only showed that we typically put up fewer yards in the 2nd half, that the drop off was a lot less than generally thought, and that we moved the ball but rarely scored in the 2nd half... (and rarely for the same reasons from week to week).
Jump to 2012. In our first loss, in the 2nd half Florida put a spy on JFF and kept him in the pocket. It killed our offense.
In the 2nd quarter Saturday, LSU appeared to change from a 4-3 to a 3-4 (bizarre!) and we didn't move the ball nearly as well after the switch. JFF also had three interceptions after this switch, two of which were his fault.
Essentially, both defenses made changes to put the game in the JFF's hands, and he didn't take care of business either time. At this point in his development, he doesn't read defenses well. He looks at his primary receiver and then runs if there is nothing there, at least that's what I see watching us. With the athleticism of Florida and LSU, nothing much came from him running in those situations.
I didn't believe in this offense when Leach ran it at Tceh. In a way, however, it's worked better for us than I expected this season. It's just a matter of having a QB who can do his check downs and find the open man. Something which should happen for JFF as he gains experience.
Just my two cents.
