I was talking about Stallings. I think Bear is safely in the great coach category.

Coach Stallings is a Hall of Fame coach.

Kinda figured that...Stallings had 1 good season at A&M when he won the '67Southwest conference title ( and then beat the Tide/Bryant in the 68 Cottonbowl). Even then A&M went into the bowl with a 6-4 record. After that season everything went south quickly. The only saving game worth remembering was the 1970 LSU game in baton rouge when Hugh McElroy caught a pass from Lex James and scored a 79yd TD with 13 secs on the clock and beat lsu 20-18. I was there and none of us could believe it. Stallings went on to lose most of his games as coach and was run off eventually ( I remember him being burnt in effigy at 1972 mid week rallys) going to the Dallas Cowboys as a DB coach followed by his Tide job. But he isn't to blame totally...hard to recruit to A&M back in those days and I guess we didn't write big enough checks.
