Just let this sink in:
Notre Dame, USCe, Stanford, West Virginia,FSU, Clemson, and a ton of other schools are more relevant then UGA. Just let that fricking shite sink in....mother....fricker.
It's all about coaching. ND, FSU and Clemson are good examples of teams like UGA that have tremendous resources but who have consistently underachieved over the last 10 years. In sharp contrast, SC and particularly WVU are teams who have done more with less. Our problem is we have never been able to do more with more with the exception of 1980 with Herschel.
The OP nails the crux of the issue. UGA has never had a truly great coach because our admins are satisfied with a coach of sound character who wins just enough to keep the donations rolling in. As long as our football program remains one of the most profitable in the nation, our situation won't change.

The Dooley culture is still there in the AD, but is starting to finally slip away. A lot of our grads live 60 minutes or less from the campus, so it is going to be filled even when we are not all that good. Richt is better than Dooley as a coach all and all, it is just that the SEC is tougher and 1 or 2 players can not win you a NC any more... I think the fans and grads want it, but they are one of the most profitable ADs in the NCAA right now as is...
