A local newspaper columnist says Spurrier has too much power, so to prove him wrong, the coach decides to show how powerful he is and force the paper to fire him. Spurrier needs to STFU and coach football. He shouldn't be trying to tell the press what they can and cannot write about him.

The guy compared Spurrier's situation to Penn State. I don't blame him one bit.

Spurrier needs to worry about coaching his team, not calling shots for local newspaper
He's doing both, obviously. DWI. Spurrier's a

OBC is coming off like a huge thin skinned loser over this.

Dude can dish but clearly can't take any heat.

What a crybaby bitch. I would love it if he just up and quit because of some reporter right before this Saturday's game would be an opportune time!

Have you missed Saban berating the press because he didn't like what they had to say?

Ron used his freedom of the press and freedom of speech and now Steve is using his.

I don't see the problem.

You're way late on this shite bro. This isn't the only thing Ron Morris has said that's pissed off Spurrier. It all started over a year ago when Morris claimed Spurrier poached Bruce Ellington away from the basketball team to play football. Ron literally made that up out of thin air. Among other things, he's a tater, and he sucks.

Respectfully disagree. The press puts out whatever they want, inflammatory or not, and they have no accountability. This guy has apparently been trying to push Spurrier's buttons for a while.

SOS is fully within his rights to carve out somebody who he doesn't believe is fairly representing the team. It's not like he's totally shutting out the media...just one guy. It's his right to determine who he interacts with in the media.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I totally support SOS on this one.

This MoRon garbage has been stewing for some time. MoRon even fabricated a story about Spurrier recruiting Bruce Ellington away from the basketball team. Then he got called on his lie, and he still stood by it. MoRon is a shock jock columnist, and Spurrier pwnes him.

You are wrong and so is the press. The press is rallying around Ron Morris -- they shouldn't.

Morris is not a reporter. He's a columnist for The State Newspaper. Simple fact is he is lazy and has an axe to grind against Spurrier in particular and USC in general.

He first crossed the line when he falsely accused Spurrier of "poaching" Bruce Ellington from the basketball team. In fact, Ellington came to Spurrier after first clearing it with Darren Horn.

Most recently Morris accused Spurrier of putting winning over the health of his players by allowing Connor Shaw to play against UAB (as if we absolutely needed Shaw to beat them). Morris conveniently ignored the fact that Spurrier deferred to the doctors and Shaw -- the doctors had given him full clearance to play.

That was bad enough, but then Morris went on national satellite radio and compared Spurrier to Paterno -- suggesting he had too much power over the program and it would lead to abuses.

No one says the local newspaper has to be a complete homer. But if they are going to be critical, they also need to be factual. Spurrier is understandably pissed that a no-nothing columnist is making baseless accusations about his integrity, particularly about endangering his players. For God's sake, Spurrier had a player die at UF -- he knows the risks and is scrupulously diligent about protecting player health.

So, yeah, Spurrier has every right to tell The State he isn't going to talk to them unless and until they fire Morris. He doesn't have to take their shite. He's right to insist they either write the truth or STFU. It's up to them to decide whether they want to truthfully report on Gamecock athletics -- or continue muckraking and slamming the local University.

Jesus, can you imagine how Spurrier would react if Guilbeau were to cover SC?
