Indeed, the Bible does call upon us to see the homosexual as a person, with dignity and value in the eyes of God. It is also true that people of all natures commit abominable sins, and sometimes snowmen, including all manner of heterosexual sins. They also cheat, lie and steal.
I think perhaps the reason that the homosexual issue rears its head so sharply is due to its being such a particularly aberrant sexual sin and not only being tolerated, but celebrated and promoted. When it was a closeted activity, and those who practiced it accepted the impropriety of the behavior, the issue, while having different repercussions, didn’t seem to elicit the same visceral reactions that it does today. Yes, one can anecdotally point to violent and hateful treatments of homosexuals in the past. However, one can also anecdotally point to many, many cases in which people simply knew about the two old men or ladies who were "roommates" and they lived very tolerantly along side of them.
I have a problem, however, with living along side of someone who may attempt to proselytize my children with the gay agenda.
As to the civil rights analogies, you are right. The two scenarios are apples to oranges. Being gay does not equal being black.
Your responses are well thought out, temperate in nature and winsomely put forth. I do appreciate that.
