For LSU I would have to go with 2006. For whatever reason they couldn't put it together, I felt like that team should have been competing for a national title, but fell out of the picture after an early loss to Auburn.

I've never understood why LSU fans remember their 2006 team so fondly. They lost two games, and, if I remember correctly, had several other close games.

I understand that they may have been talented, but lots of super-talented teams underachieve - just look at any USC team from 2005 to 2008 for an example.

LSU fans suggesting that their 2006 team was better than their 2003 or 2011 teams are crazy.

2001 (9/11 Postponement and lost to Tennessee a week before SECCG) and 2009 (ranked number 1 all year undefeated battle with Bama and got stomped aka Urban Chest pain game, returned tons of players from 08 championship team)

2001 definitely. Also was the start of the slippery slope to where UT is today

Obvious answer is obvious:

1941 Alabama is the best team we've ever had to not win an SEC title.

2008 Ole Miss

Beat the hell out of the current reigning national champions LSU at tiger stadium 31-13, as well as beating the eventual national champ Florida at the swamp.

Also had current NFL stars Mike Wallace, Michael Oher, Dexter McCluster, and Peria Jerry on the team.

Officially, 01. Grossman throws 6 INTs against Auburn and Travis Stephens for UT.
Unofficially, 84.

2011 and 2008 Alabama. That 2008 team was something special and losing that SECCG was the death blow. After that they didn't want to play anymore and that was confirmed by the shitty showing at the Sugar Bowl against Utah.
