LRHogFan....you're right about needing to win with good players before you can get great players, and it could be true that he would have built solid, sustainable programs had he stayed more than 4-5 years. But the evidence suggests that he just wasn't that interested in the defensive side if the ball.

TigerCard, yes that was definitely an open question. I think part of it was a bad wrap from some recruiting misses. He seemed to be pretty good about recruiting to our needs. When we needed DL depth, he signed what looked like a pretty good class at DL. Unfortunately, a handful of them got kicked off the team for off-the-field improprieties. I doubt he would ever have created an LSU or Bama type D, but I think we would have built more depth on D than we've had in ages.
