Of course, but that at least is logical. Players returning, key losses, coaching turnover, etc should all come into play. But I mean, if a team wins the national title then loses 10 starters on O, 10 on D, both kickers, and half their coaching staff...then no, they shouldn't start #1 simply due to where they finsihed a year ago.

Isn't the pre-season poll based on where the voters expect the teams to finish the season, so all of the information, players returning, ect. is figured in to the vote?
