Hurricanes didn't concern me before Katrina and still don't.

Housing 30 family members, 8 dogs, and a cat for over a month, can tend to make someone a little defensive

Concern comes with where you live and what you own. If you don't live along the coast then you don't care. If you don't own any property or businesses then you still won't care.

But, try owning a business and losing revenue for numerous months, but you still have to make payroll for your employees. Try losing numerous months of rental income on property, but you still have to make mortgage payments on that property. I guarantee you if you own property along the gulf coast then you most certainly care about hurricanes.
