Probably a don't ask don't tell thing. If it's just rumor and speculation on the internet then why would the coaches ask Dyer if its a fact and put themselves in a situation where they have to do something about it?
And if it's his gun, cool. He's not indicted with charges so it doesn't really matter. The coaches aren't here to play a game of "morality judge", they are here to win football games.

Oh, I don't know, maybe to help the kid before its to late, or they actually care about his future, or to keep a handle on thuggery like loaning guns to teammates to rob students with, team discipline in general which is what everyone is concerned about in this thread it seems.
Or just don't ask about anything and just look the other way until someone gets robbed, gets a public intox, failed drug tests that lead to suspensions, players bashing out other students brains (Eric Smith) ect. ect.
